VTOS

A second chance at education and training!

The Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS) is a special range of courses designed to meet the education needs of unemployed people. In Balbriggan we offer a two year general education and work related learning programme for long-term unemployed adults.  To be eligible for a VTOS programme, a person must be aged 21 or over and in receipt of a social welfare payment for at least six months or have recently been made redundant. The course is particularly suitable to anyone with less than Junior Cert Education.

In Balbriggan, the VTOS course offers the opportunity for adults to come back to education in an environment suited to their needs, to use their time productively, to make new friends and to acquire valuable educational qualifications. The aim of this programme is to assist participants accessing Third Level or Further Education or acquire qualifications suitable for entry to the labour market. VTOS is offered free to participants who meet the Departments of Education and Social Welfare requirements. Participants will retain their Social Welfare entitlements while on the course.

Course Information

The Balbriggan VTOS course offers two options of training - Business Administration and Childcare, both options are two years. Those interested in applying must satisfy the requirements explained above and preference is given to those that have left school early, those without FETAC Level 5 qualifications and those without third level education.
